REDPEAFOWL, Chapter 10: Day Outing
Lu Yipeng fell asleep with his head on the pillow, exhausted. When he woke up, the space beside him was empty. He opened his eyes and looked through the morning light outside the window. He saw someone standing on the balcony, but their posture was a little strange.
The young police officer stood up and blinked a few times before raising his hand to wave. The person standing there was definitely Hong Kongque. The posture he was in was one of the basic stances of martial arts, called the horse stance or chair pose. Lu Yipeng had never seen Hong Kongque practicing martial arts in front of him before, let alone fighting. He had always been on the losing side since the first stance. Lu Yipeng was confident in his own martial arts skills, so when Hong Kongque could defeat him in the first five moves, it was clear that his skill level was not ordinary.
Lu Yipeng slowly sat up from the bed, taking the same stance to observe. He wanted to know who would prevail between him and Hong Kongque.
It’s unknown how long Hong Kongque had been standing in that stance before Lu Yipeng woke up, but when Hong Kongque finally stood up in his normal stance, an hour and a half had passed exactly. When Lu Yipeng raised his hand to yawn, he had been able to stand for a maximum of two hours during his training. Judging by Hong Kongque’s posture, he showed no signs of fatigue or strain whatsoever. He must have trained continuously for a long time to win so easily.
Standing still, sighing to catch his breath, Hong Kongque began to draw with his hands and feet. It was the slowest and softest movement that Lu Yipeng had ever seen. Every part of the body was organized perfectly as he moved slowly through various poses.
Lu Yipeng bit his lip. Although he knew it would look a bit ugly when executed, the young man couldn’t help but try to imitate the poses. Stealing a few poses wouldn’t hurt, right?
The martial arts poses that Hong Kongque demonstrated looked new to Lu Yipeng, and seemed somewhat difficult to understand at first. However, seeing the slow and graceful movements, he was able to pick up on the techniques.
Luckily, there was enough space in the room for him to mimic Hong Kongque’s martial arts without any hindrance.
Hong Kongque continued with his slow moves for a while, then started to pick up the pace. Lu Yipeng followed, trying to keep up with the unusual speed of Hong Kongque’s movements. Though he couldn’t match the speed at first, he persisted and refused to give up easily. This was his chance.
As the poses came to an end, Hong Kongque playfully pretended to be caught by a police officer, and when he finally kicked his leg down to the ground and stood up to finish the pose, Lu Yipeng stood up and raised his head high, meeting Hong Kongque’s gaze with a hint of a smile at the corner of his mouth. The young officer could almost hear his heart pounding loudly as if it would burst out.
He was caught again!!
Hong Kongque finished his martial arts routine and stood leisurely, enjoying the breeze while looking at the rising sun. He didn’t know if he was letting the young officer off the hook or not.
Lu Yipeng sighed with a slight smile. He was caught again. As a man, he knew that if you dared to deceive, you must also be brave enough to accept the consequences. The young officer walked slowly towards the balcony where Hong Kongque was standing.
“Your martial arts poses… are impressive, aren’t they?”
“Are they really that great?” Hong Kongque replied, turning to the officer with a wide smile, “I’m looking for someone to train with, are you interested?”
Lu Yipeng’s eyes widened. If this was going to be his teacher, then… he would rather accept defeat and continue to train, but who knows, with enough practice, he might overcome someday.
Therefore, the young policeman shook his head, “I think I can’t study anymore. I just don’t have the ability.”
Hong Kongque looked at him for a moment and then spoke, “Hmm… I thought the top students of the police department would be more determined than this. It’s okay, Pengpeng, you change your mind anytime. Come and bow to me when you want me to become a teacher to you.”
“It’s okay. I don’t want you to have a student who doesn’t listen like me. I’ll ruin the reputation of the institution.” Lu Yipeng looked back at Hong Kongque with a smile, “Then let me teach you a lesson.”
After saying that, he threw a punch at Lu Yipeng. Even though the young man had to learn not to be passive, he realized he shouldn’t stand still and let anyone punch him. He quickly backed away before finding out that apart from the punch, Hong Kongque also kicked him in the shin.
He wanted to shout out that this wasn’t the place to fight, but his heart was too stubborn. He didn’t want to say anything and just kicked and pushed him away for a while. Suddenly, Hong Kongque stopped pushing and smiled, “It’s not that bad here.”
Lu Yipeng, still a bit shocked, looked at the person in front of him. Before the other person could come and hit him, he said, “Let’s go take a shower and eat.
Today, the teachers pay.”
“I’m not your student.” The young policeman retorted immediately before walking away. Hong Kongque just sighed and smiled.
“A really stubborn head…”
…
Lu Yipeng walked out of the bathroom, feeling a little surprised that Hong Kongque invited him to have a meal at the restaurant downstairs. After finishing their meal, he invited him to go cycling around the city to buy souvenirs. Since they had known each other, this was the most ordinary invitation Hong Kongque had ever spoken to him. It was so ordinary that Lu Yipeng thought he misheard.
They rented bikes and set off after looking at the map. As they cycled along the road, Lu Yipeng couldn’t help but wonder how old this doctor really was, as he didn’t seem as strong as someone in their forties or fifties.
“Kongque.” The young policeman asked as he pedaled faster to catch up,
“Did you inherit the name Red Peafowl from your brother or your father?”
Hong Kongque chuckled and raised his eyebrows high, then chuckled, “What makes you think like that?”
“Well, your demeanor does not look like a fifty-year-old at all. The Red Peafowl is a name that has been around for over thirty years. If you had not inherited the name, then what would it be?”
Hong Kongque chuckled approvingly, “You really think deeply. The truth is, I just want to see the look in your eyes, but this Red Peafowl name was created with my hands, so I’ll not let you guess wrong about this.”
Lu Yipeng looked disappointed, not wanting to believe it, “Are you really over fifty, or what?”
“If it was not you, I’d have ridden my bike away.” Hong Kongque said with a nod towards Lu Yipeng, and heard another person speaking, “Why does it matter to you, why do you want to know so much?”
“Well…” Lu Yipeng hesitated, scratching his head, “You won’t let me know the answer of how old is this person I am having sex with.”
“Based on my face, what do you think my age is?”
Lu Yipeng quickly put on a puzzled face, “It’s difficult. Your face looks like someone in their twenties or thirties, but your character is very old-fashioned.”
This time, Hong Kongque’s foot reached out to kick, luckily Lu Yipeng was already on guard, so he dodged the bike just in time. Otherwise, he would have fallen over for sure.
“Little Pengpeng, you naughty boy, come and get kicked properly.” Hong Kongque said, pushing the bike closer to Lu Yipeng, who looked genuinely surprised before pedaling the bike down the slope.
…
They both rode their bikes to the shopping area, which was about two kilometers away. After parking and locking their bikes, Hong Kongque changed into his tourist shopping outfit and walked leisurely around. Lu Yipeng just realized that Hong Kongque was very serious, not to be underestimated. He wandered around for a long time without buying anything. While he bought a bunch of items, including keychains and earrings, Lu Yipeng bought enough for everyone in the department store. Hong Kongque, who hadn’t chosen anything yet, watched him and asked, “Are you buying everything or what, inspector?”
“I bought some gifts to give at the police department.” Lu Yipeng said, then asked, “But what about you? The kids at the orphanage have so many choices, are you going to buy or choose until you can’t decide?”
Hong Kongque looked at him and replied with a smile, “When buying gifts, you have to choose carefully. The more gifts you buy, the more careful you have to be. It’s important to feel at ease when giving them away.”
“So, I guess when you choose gifts for your girlfriend, it must take days to decide.” The young police officer said. Hong Kongque turned to him and replied, “I’ve never had to do anything like that.”
Lu Yipeng turned back and immediately Hong Kongque picked up a keychain shaped like an elephant that he had taken out of a shell, then asked,
“Do you think this one is good?”
Lu Yipeng looked at it for a while, then nodded.
“Then, keep it.” The other person said, and then chose another keychain. In the end, Hong Kongque chose exactly thirty-seven keychains. With Lu Yipeng being the one to carry them. After paying, both of them bought some snacks to eat. Then Hong Kongque went to choose two more pieces of batik cloth, which took almost an hour to decide.
After finishing the purchases, they both returned to their bicycles. Lu Yipeng was left to carry everything alone as usual. While they were riding back, Hong
Kongque asked, “Pengpeng, do you want to go explore the city? I heard there are good gay bars around.”
Lu Yipeng looked at the other person immediately, “Go explore on your own.
I’m not interested in those kinds of things.” Then he grabbed the food bag, pedaled his bike out immediately, and Hong Kongque smiled at the corner of his mouth. Then he pedaled his bike to follow Lu Yipeng who said, “Not going to the gay bar, then?”
“It’s only four o’clock, they’re not open yet. I’ll go for a massage first.” The other person said, smiling comfortably, “But Pengpeng, you probably won’t be jealous.”
“Crazy, who would be jealous of an old-fashioned man like you.” Lu Yipeng retorted before making goofy faces. Hong Kongque chuckled and hurried to ride his bike with the young man.
…
Back in the hotel room, after storing their purchased items, both Lu Yipeng and Hong Kongque went down to the massage room. It is said that Thai massages are great for relaxing muscles. Lu Yipeng wanted to try it once, so he chose a full body massage. As for Hong Kongque, who probably didn’t want anyone to see the red peafowl tattoo on his back, he chose a foot massage instead.
Lu Yipeng laid his face down on the massage bed, probably because he had been working hard for many years, and on top of that, he had to deal with some crazy stuff these past two days. From that peacock guy’s antics. The scent of the herbal oil mixed with essential oils that they rubbed on his body, and the pressure of the fingers pressing down was neither too heavy nor too light. Combined with the unique Thai massage technique, it made the young man feel relaxed and eventually drift off to sleep.
The young police officer felt himself dozing off again when he saw Hong Kongque come and sit beside him. As soon as he saw him wake up, he smiled immediately, “Slept well, Pengpeng? Get up and continue sleeping on the bed.”
Lu Yipeng blinked his eyes, then sat up and followed Hong Kongque back to the room.
The young man lay down on the bed, still not able to sleep well. There was a nagging feeling when he saw Hong Kongque dressing as if he was going out.
Unable to resist, he had to ask again, “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to see the lights in the city.” Hong Kongque replied, and came to find Lu Yipeng on the bed, “Little Pengpeng, you be a good kid, go to sleep.
Grandpa Kong is going out to find some happiness.”
Lu Yipeng frowned and immediately got up, “I’ll go with you.”
Hong Kongque seemed slightly surprised, “Not resting?”
Lu Yipeng shook his head, “No. I’d rather go with you, in case you’re going to contact some illegal businesses. I’ll be able to catch up.”
Hong Kongque chuckled, “As you wish, police officer, but change your shirt as well, they may not let you in otherwise.
Lu Yipeng felt a little surprised when Hong Kongque took him to a regular bar instead of going to a gay bar as he had suggested earlier in the afternoon.
After ordering drinks and finishing them, Lu Yipeng couldn’t help but ask,
“Hey, we came to the wrong place, didn’t we?”
Hong Kongque looked genuinely surprised, “Oops, didn’t you say you don’t like gay men? I brought you here instead, or have your preferences changed.”
The person being questioned gave a sly look instead of answering, as Hong
Kongque chuckled, “Pengpeng, you are showing off your skills to the fullest. I’ll go drink at that bar over there. Oh, and don’t worry, I won’t go negotiate illegal deals with anyone, because if I really want to do it, you won’t be able to catch me.”
Lu Yipeng immediately frowned as he was lightly slapped on the cheek,
“Don’t look so pouty, this is your day off.” Hong Kongque said. Lu Yipeng wanted to say that this guy should have known by now that this was his day, and maybe he had forgotten about it a bit.
But arguing with the nerving peacock would only cause him to retreat, so…
Once Hong Kongque rose and left, Lu Yipeng had to muster up his courage. Even if it was just for one day, it was still good. Tonight, he had to live out his young life to the fullest.
The girls who entered the club looked decent, with a certain level of demeanor. Lu Yipeng sat down and had a drink. Two girls came and asked to join. Upon learning that they were foreigners, each person tried to speak English to them, but it was as if it were flowing water, understanding was as difficult as
Lu Yipeng’s English Hong Kong accent. Nevertheless, raising hands and gestures enhanced the conversation and made it more lively.
They chatted for a while, and one of the girls asked to leave. Hong Kongque, sitting with the other girl with black hair, asked, “Where did your friend go?”
“Oh, she saw someone interesting over there and wanted to go make an acquaintance. Jan is good at relationships like this.” The girl replied. Lu Yipeng followed her gaze and saw Hong Kongque chatting with the other girls. The young police officer’s ears burned with curiosity.
Who said he didn’t like women?
“Hey, where are you going?!” The puzzled girl asked as the young police officer quickly stood up and left.
…
Hong Kongque was holding a glass of red wine, talking about healthy salads among the surrounded girls. As Lu Yipeng walked in, Hong Kongque stopped talking and immediately turned to greet him, “Hey, what’s up, Pengpeng.”
“I’m leaving.” Lu Yipeng answered, then got looked at by Hong Kongque with a puzzled face, “Why? Is the atmosphere not good or something? Want to change places?”
“No, I’m just tired. Come back with me.”
The hesitant person finally nodded before bidding farewell to the girls and leaving.
“I’ll walk out on my own, really. Just a quick stop and then I’ll be back.” Hong Kongque complained as he followed Lu Yipeng out, “I’m eager to take you to a bar with beautiful girls and, and these guys are really hard to please.” As soon as he finished speaking, Lu Yipeng sighed and turned to look at him.
Without responding, he simply took one of Hong Kongque’s hands and led him to call a taxi.
Encountering this situation, Hong Kongque was stunned as well.
No one said anything as they made their way back to the room and took a shower, changed clothes, and Lu Yipeng sat on the bed. Meanwhile, Hong
Kongque walked in. Upon seeing this, Hong Kongque couldn’t help but ask,
“Aren’t you going to sleep, inspector?”
“You should sleep first.” Lu Yipeng said, looking at the other side of the bed. Hong Kongque grunted and sat down on the bed, “What was that happening at the bar, or do you not like women like that?”
Lu Yipeng shook his head. Hong Kongque sighed, “Then stop messing around, or do you have another plan?” He spoke in a teasing tone, but this time, Lu Yipeng wasn’t in the mood to play along. He spoke with a serious tone, “Lie down first, Kongque. I won’t hold you.”
Hong Kongque hesitated for a moment but eventually lay down, “If you say you want to be straightforward, I would be much happier.”
Lu Yipeng didn’t respond. He walked over to turn off the light switch and then quickly lay down next to him. He then moved closer, pulling Hong Kongque into a tight hug.
“Don’t say anything, please. Just sleep like this.” Lu Yipeng said, hugging Hong Kongque tightly, eyes fixed on the other person.
Lu Yipeng didn’t say anything else. He didn’t do much more than hug, but for some reason, Hong Kongque felt his heart beating faster.
Crazy kid…
…
The two woke up in the morning of another day. Lu Yipeng was taken aback when he found himself hugging Hong Kongque. He was about to pull away when he realized that he had been the one to hug him last night. It was uncomfortable to think about it, but when he was about to pull away, he felt
Hong Kongque’s cheeks being pulled up, thinking that he was going to rip them off.
“DO you think of me as a teddy bear or what, inspector?” The other party said, smiling and patting his own cheek, then making a face because of the pain
Lu Yipeng said, “There’s no teddy bear this big anywhere.”
“Oh, really.” Hong Kong chuckled nervously, “You hugged me so tightly last night. I must have charmed you.”
Lu Yipeng glanced at the other person immediately, “Who would fall for you.
I just worry that you might secretly escape at night.”
A mischievous smile appeared on Hong Kong’s face immediately, and Lu Yipeng became flustered and quickly changed the subject, “I’ll go take a shower now. I won’t have time to get ready.”
“The car leaves in an hour. Are you planning to soak yourself to the bone or what?” Hong Kong teased, and Lu Yipeng glanced at him again before walking reluctantly into the bathroom, leaving Hong Kongque sighing heavily.
Damn it, seriously, this kid…
…
Finally, Lu Yipeng returned from his break with Hong Kongque. As they stepped out of the passenger door, one of Hong Kongque’s servants was already waiting. Seeing his master, the servant quickly came over to help carry the luggage, which actually only consisted of a large travel bag.
Lu Yipeng stood and blinked. He would have to return alone like when he arrived. As he dragged his bag to go into the car, Hong Kongque called out,
“Need a ride?”
Lu Yipeng shook his head, “It’s fine. You go back to your beloved soon. I’ll be fine on my own.”
Hong Kong stood still for a moment before speaking, “Alright then, have a safe journey back home.”
“Um, thank you.” Lu Yipeng replied, then carried his bag out.
The young man returned home, packed his travel bag, changed his clothes, and took a shower. He drove around the city, observing the lights and sounds of various pubs and bars. Then he stopped at a bar, drank until five in the morning, and finally drove back home.
The young man opened the door and entered the house, then let out a sigh. He had been living in this house since he started his government service five years ago and had never thought it was quiet or lonely. In fact, he rarely stayed at home. Sometimes he even got stuck at the department. But today, all of a sudden, he felt that the house was quiet and lonely.
Lu Yipeng took another shower, changed into his pajamas, and walked towards his bed. He hadn’t slept in this bed for who knows how many years, and all of a sudden, he felt that it was too spacious.
He lay down on the bed and looked at the empty side of it. He had just returned from a weekend trip with a man who he didn’t know how old he was or what wrongs he had committed. A man he needed evidence to arrest and put in jail one day.
And that’s it…
But this time, he had gone and come back without any evidence at all. It was really frustrating!!!!
